In December of last year, BSS launched a campaign to build a new house for the living legend Mango Ghost.   The municipal government of Bluefields took a leadership role by committing to build the cement foundation of the house.

In January of 2010 Mango and his wife moved out of their old house and into Mini Hotel & Cafetín Central.  In the same month his old house was taken down and work on the new one began.

Despite such rapid success, the campaign to complete the house is not over.  While the municipality is covering the budget for the cement foundation, we are still working to raise the $3,222 that is needed to build the rest of the house.  To learn more about how you can help out the cause:

This year as a gesture of the Christmas spirit, the Bluefields Sound System decided to bring some joy to the jailhouse. One of our original Bluefields Sounds System songsters, by the name of Clifton Bent aka”Sexy”, is also a resident of The Bluefields Jailhouse, and we brought our complete sound to go pay him a visit.
We had our full lineup of songsters backed by our official group ” The Mighty Blue”.
Sabu the Cati-Man was there in full effect singing and dancing for the jail guys, as well as our tough line up of young Bluefields artists. The show jumped off in a very positive movement and we were happy to bring the prisoners donations of hygiene products. We would like to thank the local business that reached out to help us bring the inmates something to better their situation during these Christmas days.

It was a big excitement for us to come out and make a presentation in Managua to show everybody what we are all about. We were received well with invitations to appear on Channel 2 and 10, along with Radio interviews on Rock FM and Radio Universitario. The concert was the return of Sabu the original Catiman “El hombre Gato”. It was also the first presentation of “The Mighty Blue” our band of all-star Bluefields Songsters featuring, Rocco, Poochie, and Raymond Meyers. In addition it was a return to the limelight for Kali Boom and Kila-B, as well as a first Managua performance for Papa Bantam and Mad Angels.
We switched the style late in the night with a breakout D.J. set from international house DJ, Evan Rhodes. He invited BSS artists to lace his original house beats with a fresh dancehall style, taking the night to a next level and leaving the people wanting more.
We want to give a special thanks to Fusion Bar, Wendelyn Transport, La La’s Bar, and all the people who worked with us to make this a successful event. Stayed tuned for future releases of music and media from the concert.

The night once again showed Managua’s appreciation for Electronic Music as an emerging scene as well as for a new original House sound.

Working with Evan Rhodes for us is significant because of his involvement in the Bluefields School of Reggae. Working with complimentary music of different genres is part of the objectives for our project. We are looking forward in this year to continue collaborating with different artists national and international.
We want to send out our thanks and appreciation to Revuelta Sonora and Fussion bar for coming together to produce the event.

Headlining the show will be the original “Catty Man” Aka “El Hombre Gato” legendary Profesór Sabu. Sabu hasn’t returned to Managua since the 80’s when he made his reputation playing nightclubs in Nicaragua’s capital and throughout Central America. The return of Sabu is guaranteed to be an event to go down in the history books.

Teaming up to hold down the sound is a group of Bluefields heaviest hitting musicians along with a selection of our hottest rising dancehall stars.

Evan Rhodes, originally from Detroit, has put out numerous releases on many well respected music labels. He has been producing music for over 15 years and has gained recognition and respect in both the Detroit and San Fran house music scenes.

He was well received upon arrival in Managua and performed to a packed house at Managua’s Club Fusion. During his time in Bluefields Evan will be participating with the “Bluefields School of Reggae” giving a workshop in sampling and beat sequencing. Working with a producer like Evan Rhodes fits exactly into the model we are working to execute with the School of Reggae. His skill and experience will be a resource for our artists as they are learning to use the studio and create their own original sound.

Upon popular request Evan Rhodes will DJ a follow up show to his first party in Managua.
Look for him on the 6th of December at Club Fusion in Managua.
Also performing will be Revuelta Sonora.
